DepotRetro started as a vintage victim's hobby site, the digital playground of someone with an irrational urge to collect and a love of charming anachronisms. A place for recognition that remembers, for the simple beauty of objects, for the dialogue of old things in a new light. But suddenly it was all about vases.
“Why vases?”, someone asked. I am not sure … Perhaps the love of flowers, childhood memories, the aesthetic and sensory appeal of vases' shapes and glazes, their artful modesty, their affiliation with earth and fire.
Liminal, a vase exists by grace of the void it defines, a place within, a promise of flowers and abundance. But the promise cannot wait, turns inside out, overflows – glaze running and dripping – blossoming with textures, patterns and colours. Self-sufficient if needs be.
