Marcellus Aubry

(Châtelet 1909-1982)

Not many potters of his generation come up to the mark of Marcellus Aubry's work. His is a full-blooded craftsmanship that emerges self-consciously from the broad shadow of his father’s excellence. His art is best appreciated in the larger pieces, such as his impressive pitcher vases with generous spouts and pronounced rounded handles. Even more than his unique and characteristic design, it is his glaze wizardry that breathes life into these pieces. Just look at these copious blue drip glazes that lend the objects their organic veined look. Impressive.
